Summary of Qualifications
Mr. Wetherhold is a Chartered Financial Analyst with over 30 years of private and public sector experience in public debt management, capital markets, insurance, bank training, and pension reform. He has worked for major insurance companies and investment houses, such as American Re-Insurance, Guardian Life Insurance, Dean Witter, and Brown Brothers Harriman. More recently, Mr. Wetherhold has served as Resident Advisor in Public Debt Management for governments in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia through the U.S. Treasury Department, World Bank and USAID. Mr. Wetherhold's international experience extends to Bulgaria, Lithuania, Hungary, Sri Lanka, Latvia, and Albania, and Macedonia.
Mr. Wetherhold has had broad experience in economic development work in the financial sector and in capacity building for USAID, the ADB, and the United States Treasury Department. In Albania, he had as one mission the promotion of investment in public and private securities in the Republic. He has worked with the State Pension Supervision in Hungary as an investment advisor and more recently for the Bulgarian Capital Markets Project where he helped introduce mortgage backed securities to the Bulgarian capital markets. Most of his assignments have involved working closely with senior government officials as well as private industry leaders as counterparts. Effective communication with counterparts and potential private partners has been very important in his work. Mr. Wetherhold has a special interest in pension reform because of its close link to capital markets development. He is currently engaged on planning a major pension reform project in southeast Asia.
